King Tubby Dub
Dub Reggae Biography Discography Lyrics
King Tubby was born in Kingston Jamaica in 1941. His passion for sound equipment let him into a musical genre that became a veritable art form. A King Tubby remix is like gold to an artist in Jamaica. Today King Tubbys name is synonymous with dub music. In the fifties Jamaicans were moving out of the dancehalls and onto the streets where they followed sound systems as they traveled around and set up anywhere and blasted the crowd. In 1971 King Tubby opened his own studio and worked with Augustus Pablo, Lee Perry and Glen Brown. It was at this time that he recorded King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown. By the end of the seventies he was teaching Scientist, Prince Jammy and Prince Phillip Smart. As a producer in the eighties he worked with Cregory Isaacs, Johnny Clarke, Pliers and Ninjaman. He was shot and killed in 1989 but his legacy lives on.
