Ernest Ranglin was born in Manchester, Jamaica in 1932.He is one of the true veterans of the reggae music scene and is touring now in his eighties.He started playing music on a ukulele and then moved on to guitar playing in the Bahamas with Monty Alexander while still in his teens.His session work at the Studio One helped give birth to ska.In 1964 he went to London where he played in Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club and began to attract attention.
Ranglin teamed up with Millie Small to release the international smash hit My Boy Lollipop. Although best known for his jazz prowess, in the seventies, he toured with Jimmy Cliff, backed the Wailers, made arrangements for the Melodians, and in 1973 was awarded the Order of Distinction for his contribution to music by the Jamaican Government.
